MIT Scholarship 2027 for Undergraduates (Need-Based Financial Aid)
The MIT Scholarship 2027 is the need-based financial aid that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology gives to its undergraduate students. MIT does not offer a separate merit scholarship form. If you are admitted and apply for aid, MIT offers financial aid based entirely on your family's demonstrated financial need, not on any measure of merit. International students are welcome to apply, and whether you are a domestic or international applicant does not affect the financial aid you are offered. How MIT financial aid works - MIT is need-blind, which means your ability to pay is not considered in the admissions process. - MIT is also full-need. It commits to meeting 100% of your demonstrated financial need for all four years of your undergraduate studies. - Students whose family income is under USD 200,000 a year, with typical assets, attend tuition-free. Their MIT Scholarship covers at least the cost of tuition. - Families whose total income is under USD 100,000, with typical assets, are not expected to contribute toward their student's MIT education. The full price of an MIT education is USD 92,760 for the 2026-27 academic year, but most students pay far less. The median annual price paid by an undergraduate who received an MIT Scholarship was USD 10,268 in 2024-25, and 88% of the Class of 2026 graduated debt-free. The amount you receive depends on your own family's finances, so use the estimate-your-cost calculator on the MIT website to get an idea. Who can apply Most applicants are aged 17 to 19 and apply at the start of their final year of secondary school. MIT considers anyone who is not a US citizen or permanent resident an international applicant. There are no required high school classes, and MIT does not convert your grades to the American system. Students who have already enrolled at another university must apply as transfer students. What you need to submit - The MIT first-year application form, including essays, activities and academics - A Secondary School Report with transcript, sent by your school counsellor or an equivalent school official - Two letters of recommendation from teachers, ideally one from a math or science teacher and one from a humanities, social science or language teacher - SAT or ACT scores. MIT requires one of them and has no minimum score. - An English proficiency test result if you are a non-native speaker who meets MIT's conditions. This is strongly recommended. - The application fee of USD 75, or a fee waiver request You can apply only once per entry year, in either the Early Action or the Regular Action cycle. Deadlines for the MIT Scholarship 2027 - Early Action: applications are due 1 November, with decisions in mid-December. Financial aid applications are due 30 November. - Regular Action: applications are due 4 January, with decisions in mid-March. Financial aid applications are due 15 February. Financial aid is managed separately from the admission application, so do not forget the second form. Required tests must be taken before 30 November for Early Action and before 31 December for Regular Action. The official page does not state a time of day for the deadlines, so submit early. A tip for applicants Do not leave the aid application for later. Collect your family's income and tax documents early, because they can take weeks to prepare and translate. Applying for aid does not hurt your chance of admission. Please confirm all dates and requirements for the MIT Scholarship 2027 on the official MIT Admissions website before you apply.
