Clarendon Scholarship 2027-28 at Oxford University (Fully Funded)

The Clarendon Scholarship 2027 is the University of Oxford's flagship graduate scholarship, open to outstanding students from every country and every subject area. It is funded by the Clarendon Fund, and what makes it unusual is that you do not fill in a separate scholarship form. If you apply for a new Master's or DPhil course at Oxford by the December or January deadline for your course, you are automatically considered for the Clarendon Scholarship 2027. What the scholarship covers - Your course fees in full, for both Home and Overseas fee status students - For full-time courses, an annual grant for living expenses of at least the UKRI minimum doctoral stipend rate. In 2025-26 this was at least £20,780, which is normally enough to cover the living costs of a single student in Oxford. Check the current amount in your offer letter. - For part-time courses, a study support grant toward non-fee costs. The amount varies by course. The scholarship is normally offered for the period for which you pay course fees. Continuation charges after that period are not covered by the Clarendon Fund. Who can apply - There are no restrictions by nationality or country of residence. - All full-time DPhil and Master's courses are eligible, and there are no restrictions on subject area. - You must be applying to start a new DPhil or Master's course. This includes current Oxford Master's students who are re-applying for a DPhil or applying for a second Master's. - You are not eligible if you hold a deferred graduate offer, or if you are a current student continuing the same degree next year. What the selectors look for The guideline is an outstanding academic record. Most successful scholars have at least a first class honours degree or its equivalent, for example a GPA of at least 3.7 out of 4.0, and many score higher. An exceptional Master's degree can make up for a more moderate first degree. The selectors also look at your future potential and aptitude for the course, and at your motivation, judged from your personal statement and references. Deadline for the Clarendon Scholarship 2027 There is no separate scholarship deadline. You must apply by the December or January admissions deadline that applies to your course. These dates differ between courses, so check your course page on the Oxford website. For example, one Oxford department lists 1 December 2026 as its next deadline. Courses with a March or later deadline are not considered for most Oxford scholarships, so apply as early as you can. How the selection works 1. Apply to your chosen course by its December or January deadline. 2. Academics in your field assess your application, and the department makes the decision on your place. 3. Departments nominate their strongest candidates to their academic division. 4. The divisions review nominations in February or March and shortlist the top candidates. 5. Successful candidates are contacted by email, and most initial offers are sent by the end of April. Unsuccessful applicants are not contacted. If you have not heard from the Clarendon team by mid-June, you can assume you were not awarded a scholarship. A tip for applicants Because the application is your only chance, put the most effort into your personal statement, your references and, for research degrees, your research proposal. Oxford suggests submitting at least two weeks before the deadline, so problems with references or documents do not cost you your place. Please confirm your course deadline and all funding details for the Clarendon Scholarship 2027 on the official University of Oxford website before you apply.
